Hotel Le Fitz Roy, Val Thorens, France

Situated at the very heart of Europe's highest ski resort you will find the iconic Hotel Le Fitz Roy. Having been the meeting spot for mountain enthusiasts since it was built, this well-known property has recently been renovated bringing the decor bang up to date. Wood panelling, woollen fabric and other materials that match the surrounding mountains reflect its alpine location. However, there is no nod to nostalgia - the Fitz Roy is a modern hotel with contemporary style and clean lines. The bedrooms embrace the past but also the present.

The spacious 72 rooms (56 rooms and 16 suites) also bring together the classic and the contemporary, creating discreet elegance. A south-facing sun terrace overlooking the slopes is the "place to be," while the Fitz Roy, renowned for its excellent take on modern French cuisine, is not to be missed. An in-house ski shop is on hand to help both novices and experts tackle the 600km of slopes that surround Le Fitz Roy. And after a day of skiing, the hotel's spa has a swimming pool carved out of the mountainside, a Turkish bath, and sauna to complete the experience.

The bedrooms can be described as modern classic in style and have the usual mod cons - Wi-Fi, flat screen TV, safe and balcony.
