Meribel Village, France
Meribel Village should not be confused with the main resort of Meribel, Meribel Les Allues or Meribel Mottaret. All four are quite distinct places with their own characters. Nestled in the heart of the French Alps, Méribel Village is a charming ski hamlet that offers a more peaceful alternative to the livelier Méribel Centre, while still providing direct access to one of the world’s largest ski domains—the Trois Vallées.
Unlike purpose-built resorts, Méribel Village retains the feel of a classic mountain settlement. It developed from a small cluster of farms and chalets and still centres around a small, sunny village square. Stone-and-wood chalets, converted barns, a bakery, a supermarket, and a few cosy bars and restaurants give the village an authentic alpine atmosphere. The architecture is tightly regulated in the Méribel valley, which helps preserve its traditional aesthetic and cohesive design. The result is a place that feels calm and intimate rather than busy or commercial.
Despite its quiet atmosphere, Méribel Village is extremely well connected to the slopes. A modern high-speed chairlift (the Golf chairlift) links the village directly to the wider Les 3 Vallées ski area. From here, skiers can access Méribel’s extensive local pistes or continue on to Courchevel, Val Thorens, and beyond. One of the most convenient features is the ability to ski back into the village via gentle blue runs, allowing for a true ski-in, ski-out experience in good conditions.
