Chalet Lodge Merlot, Val d'Isere, France

Luxury Lodge Merlot is one of the beautiful Bellevarde Lodges - an impressive collection of six stone-and-timber chalets which are situated a few hundred metres from the Olympique cable car, right on the Santons piste. The Lodges are extremely popular the national press and other guests. Mentioned by the Evening Standard (2006) as 'comfortably chic, the best located new chalets in resort this season'.

Named after brandy and wine; Muscat, Merlot, Margaux, Cognac, Savoie, Chablis - each chalet is virtually identical inside and varies only in orientation and colour scheme. The finest materials are used throughout the chalets, featuring; original old timbers from a local dismantled farmhouse, Italian marble in the bathrooms and polished parquet flooring. The vaulted sitting rooms with exposed beams and floor to ceiling glass boast the most breathtaking views in the resort. There is an impressive fireplace, a huge sunny terrace and widescreen DVD television with cinema surround sound. Hot tubs on the chalet sun decks allow for magnificent views of the Bellevarde Mountain.Heated ski boots in the morning and hair dryers in each room are some of the small but important touches.

Due to its piste-side position the Bellevarde Lodges are genuinely ski in/ski out.

Val d'Isere is widely acclaimed to be one of the top resorts in the world, with one of the best snow records in Europe. Linked with neighbouring Tignes, there are over 300km of pistes, vast areas of off piste and skiing as high as 3,000m. Val d'Isere is home to some of the Alps most luxurious chalets, offering guests a truly 1st class service with gourmet food, indoor spas, hot tubs, and state of the art entertainment systems. Val d'Isere is also home to a bevy of luxurious 5 star hotels and gourmet restaurants such as the Michelin starred La Becca.

We say...
For most the Bellevarde Lodges tick all the right boxes. These large, semi detached properties have a lovely spacious sitting/dining room with large floor to ceiling West facing sliding doors. These not only let in wonderful afternoon light but also give direct access to the large (often sun-drenched) deck and outside hot tubs. The piste that leads down to the resort centre and the main lifts runs directly behind the chalets. If we add good food and wine you can understand why these chalets represent excellent value for money in this world class resort.

This was the perfect chalet. Luxurious and yet simple. Beautiful morning views of the mountains, comfortable living area to relax after skiing and supper, piping hot water for rejuvenating long baths and a heated boot room to make those early mornings that much easier. The best chalet I have ever stayed in.

Mr M H

A fantastic holiday - excellent service from our tour operator and Alpine Answers. The chalet was outstanding - the best chalet I have ever stayed in! Sophie (Alpine Answers) was outstanding. I have had several holidays as a result of using Alpine Answers and I would definitely use you in the future.

Ms M C

The resort staff were amazing particularly the chalet hosts who were always there to answer any questions, and what they didn't know they would find out straight away. They seem to have a very good grasp about how to run a week-long ski holiday smoothly from start to finish. A very good chalet with all the amenities. Only regret was the distance from the main town of Val d'Isere. Though accessible on foot or shuttle service, the distance meant we did not pop out for a quick après ski. Not a massive problem though as the chalet was very pleasant for a wine and hot tub. The Alpine Answers' website was incredibly easy to search for available chalets that met our criteria. And when I sent an enquiry, Claire's service was exceptional. Her knowledge and ability to understand what I wanted was second to none.
